Flex Plate: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE  

1. Remove the transaxle from the engine.  
2. Remove the pressure plate assembly and the clutch disc.  
3. Replace the flywheel if any of the following conditions exist on the ring gear or on the surface that contacts the clutch disc:

Cracks 

^

Excessive wear 

^

Damage 

4. Mark the flywheel-to-engine position. 
5. Remove the flywheel retaining bolts (1) and the flywheel from the crankshaft. 
6. Remove the clutch pilot bushing from the flywheel. 
7. Clean all grease and dirt from the flywheel outer surfaces

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE 

1. Install the clutch pilot bushing into the flywheel. 
2. Align the flywheel-to-engine marks. Install the flywheel to the crankshaft. 

NOTICE:  Do not apply an excessive amount of sealant to the flywheel retaining bolt threads. Applying too much sealant will result in the sealant
overflowing the bolt seat. This could cause the bolt to break loose during vehicle operation.

3. Apply GM P/N 12345493 or equivalent, to the flywheel retaining bolt threads. 
4. Install the flywheel retaining bolts to the flywheel.

Tighten the flywheel retaining bolts to 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.)  

5. Install the pressure plate assembly and the clutch disc.  
6. Install the transaxle to the engine.
