Wheel Bearing: Service and Repair
Rear Suspension
REAR WHEEL BEARING/ HUB
Removal Procedure
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
3. On wheel hub equipped vehicles, remove the two recessed screws and the brake drum (3) from the wheel hub (2).
4. Remove the spindle nut dust cap. Use a flat-bladed tool in order to pry off the cap.
Notice: If bearings are found to be defective on vehicles equipped with a wheel hub, replace the wheel hub and bearings as an assembly. The wheel
hub and bearing are not serviceable.
5. Unstake and remove the spindle nut (10) and the washer (9). On non wheel hub equipped vehicles, tap gently on the brake drum/hub assembly (6)
with a hammer in order to break loose and remove the brake drum/hub assembly from the spindle.
