Radiator Cooling Fan Motor: Description and Operation
DESCRIPTION
This engine is equipped with two PCM controlled electric cooling fans. The primary fan (No.1 lefthand fan), begins operation when engine coolant
temperature is above 212°F or A/C is requested and refrigerant pressure is greater than 190 psi. The secondary fan (No. 2 righthand fan), is used for
heavy duty cooling with A/C.
OPERATION
If engine coolant temperature is above 226°F or A/C is requested and vehicle speed is less than 40 mph then the fan will operate. The secondary fan
will also operate if A/C pressure is greater than 240 psi. Current flows to ground through the PCM energizing the fan relays. When certain DTC's are
present the PCM may command the cooling fans to run all the time.
