Parking Brake Cable: Adjustments
Park Brake Cable Service/Adjustment (Disc)
1. Apply the service brake pedal three times using pedal force of approximately 778 N (175 lbs.).
IMPORTANT: Do not apply the service brake during the next step.
2. Fully apply and release the parking brake three times.
3. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
4. Mark the relationship of the wheel to the hub and bearing assembly.
5. Use the following procedure in order to verify that the parking brake releases completely:
5.1. Turn the ignition on
5.2. Ensure that the BRAKE warning lamp is in the OFF position
5.3. If the BRAKE warning light is ON, verify that the pedal is in release mode and fully returned to the stop
5.4. Pull downward on the front parking brake cable in order to remove the slack from the pedal
6. Remove the rear tires and the wheels.
7. Ensure that the parking brake levers on both calipers are against the lever stops on the caliper housings.
8. If the parking brake levers are not against the stops observe the following procedure:
8.1. Check for binding in the rear cables
8.2. Loosen the cables at the adjuster until both the left and right levers are against their stops
9. Tighten the parking brake cable at the adjuster until either the left or the right lever (1) reaches the proper dimension (3).
IMPORTANT: Apply the service brake during the next step.
10. Operate the parking brake several times in order to check the adjustments. The pedal should feel firm. The rear wheels should not rotate forward
when the parking brake is fully applied. Repeat the previous step and this step if necessary.
11. Remove the wheel nuts securing the rotor to the hub and bearing assembly.
12. Install tires and wheels.
13. Align the previous marks on the wheel and the hub and bearing assembly.
14. Lower the vehicle.
