Clamp steering gear housing in a suitable vise, Fig. 1.

2.

Remove tie rod ends after making alignment marks, then remove and discard boots.

3.

Straighten staked portion of locking washer between inner tie rod and rack, then remove inner tie rods after marking left and right ends.

4.

Using tool Nos. J-35692 and J-25423, loosen rack guide spring cap locknut, then remove spring and rack guide.

5.

Remove pinion bearing adjusting screw using tool No. J-35418, then the pinion with upper bearing, using care not to damage pinion serrations.

6.

Pull rack fully from housing side and align pinion with notched portion of rack. Remove pinion and upper bearing as an assembly.
