Suspension Strut / Shock Absorber: Service and Repair
Front Suspension Strut
1.
Open hood, then remove strut to body attaching nuts.
2.
Loosen wheel lug nuts. Loosen axle shaft nut if knuckle will be removed.
3.
Raise and support vehicle until wheels are clear from ground.
4.
Remove tire and wheel assembly.
5.
Disconnect brake flex hose clip at strut bracket.
6.
Disconnect brake flex hose to brake pipe connection. Remove brake hose clip.
7.
Pull brake hose back through strut bracket opening, then tape or cap brake hose and caliper.
8.
Remove two brake caliper mounting bracket bolts, then the caliper.
9.
Mark adjusting cam, then remove both strut to knuckle attaching nuts and bolts.
10.
Remove strut assembly and camber adjusting cam from knuckle.
11.
Reverse procedure to install. Torque strut to knuckle attaching nuts and bolts to 105 ft. lbs., upper mount bolts to 13 ft. lbs., and wheel nuts to 76
ft. lbs.
