Accumulator HVAC: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Discharge and recover the refrigerant. 
3. Remove the cruise control actuator motor, if equipped. 

Important: Cap the open fittings to prevent dirt and moisture from entering the refrigeration system.

4. Remove the suction hose (7) from the accumulator.
5. Remove the accumulator hose assembly from the evaporator (1).
6. Remove the accumulator bracket bolt.
7. Slide the accumulator (6) up and out of bracket.

Installation Procedure

Important:

When replacing the accumulator add 59 cc (2.0 fl oz) of refrigerant oil to the system.

Use new O-rings lubricated with 525 viscosity mineral oil.

1. Position the accumulator into the bracket and tighten the bolt.

Tighten
Tighten the accumulator bracket bolt to 13 N.m (10 lb ft).

2. Install the suction hose (7) to accumulator.

Tighten
Tighten the suction hose to 47 N.m (35 lb ft).

3. Install the accumulator hose assembly to the evaporator (1).

Tighten
Tighten the accumulator hose to 38 N.m (28 lb ft).

4. Install the cruise control actuator motor, if removed. 
5. Connect the negative battery cable.
6. Evacuate and recharge the refrigerant system. 
7. Operate the A/C system and check for leaks.
