Pitman Arm: Service and Repair
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

Tools Required:

J 24319-B Steering Linkage Puller.
-
J 29107-A Pitman Arm Puller.
-
J 6632-01 Pitman Arm Remover.
Slide intermediate shaft cover off clamp.
Mark the relationship of the intermediate shaft.
Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle with jack stands.
1. Intermediate shaft.
2. Oil filter pipes at crossmember bracket.
3. Steering linkage shield.
4. Front differential carrier shield
5. Relay rod nut from the pitman arm ball stud. Do not reuse the nut.
6. Relay rod from the pitman arm ball stud using J 24319-B.
7. Pitman arm nut from pitman shaft.
8. Spring washer
9. Power steering gear.

Mark the pitman arm and the pitman shaft. This will permit proper alignment at assembly.
NOTICE: Do not hammer on pitman arm, pitman shaft, or puller. Damage to pitman arm or steering gear may result
10. Pitman arm from pitman shaft. Use J 6632-01 or J 29107-A.
INSPECT
-
Ball stud threads for damage.
-
Ball stud seals for excessive wear.
