Inspect lifter for wear, scuffing and loose roller shaft.
^
Inspect lifter bore in the block for wear and scuffing.
^
Inspect roller for freedom of movement.
^
inspect roller surface for flat spots or pitting.
ASSEMBLY
CAUTION: Improper installation of lifter(s) and anti-rotation bracket(s) could result in damage to the anti-rotation bracket(s), lifter(s) and/or
engine.
1. Coat foot of valve lifters with camshaft assembly lube GM P/N 1052365 or equivalent and install lifters into the bore being careful to align flat
sides (top) of lifter(s) with flat sides of anti-rotation bracket(s). When properly installed, flat sides of each lifter are aligned parallel to the
anti-rotation bracket, the roller at the bottom of each lifter is parallel to the camshaft (Figure 1).
2. Install the anti-rotation bracket(s) to lifter(s) and block observing Step 1.
3. Install the bolt(s) retaining anti-rotation bracket(s) and torque to 11 Nm (97 lbs in).
4. Position head gasket and install cylinder head.
5. Install the head bolts and studs and torque to specification. Refer to (figure 11).
6. Install the pushrods, making sure they seat in the lifters and position the rocker arms. Torque the rocker arm nuts to 30 Nm (22 lbs ft).
7. Install the rocker arm cover, fill cooling system and connect the negative battery cable.
