HOOD TO COWL VENT PANEL INTERFERENCE

On some 1985-86 S/T trucks, a squeaking noise may be heard from the cowl panel area. This noise may be caused by an interference condition between
the hood rear flange and cowl vent panel (Figure No. 1). The rear hood flange length should not exceed 25.0 mm at any point. If this distance is
exceeded, a squeak may result which could sound as if it is coming from the instrument panel. Some paint damage may also be evident to the cowl vent
panel. Before repair efforts are made in the instrument panel area, it is advised that the cowl vent panel be inspected first. If the cowl panel is confirmed
to be the source of the noise, follow the service procedure listed in this bulletin.
SERVICE PROCEDURE

Remove the hood assembly and place on a protected surface face down. Care should be used so that paint damage does not occur.

Grind the rear flange of the hood at its interference points. The hood flange length should not exceed 25.0 mm at any point.

Paint as required.
^
Remove the cowl vent panel and paint as required.
^
Reinstall cowl vent panel and hood assembly.
