1986 S/T TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH POWER DOOR LOCKS
High exterior key lock effort or interior manual lock effort may be encountered on some 1986 S/T trucks equipped with power door locks. This high
effort may be caused by a binding condition between the lock lever assembly bell crank and the power door lock motor. This condition can be eliminated
by rotating the door lock motor forward as described in the following procedure:
Power Door Lock Motor Adjustment Procedure

Remove the door inner trim panel.

Remove the top three fasteners on the door insulator pad. Pull the insulator pad down and secure with a piece of tape.

Put lock in unlocked position.
Door Lock Motor Assembly

Loosen the two door lock motor mounting screws.

Rotate the power lock motor all the way forward (toward the front of the door) and retorque mounting screws to 9 N-m (80 in.lbs.). (Ref: Figure
No. 1)

Check to ensure that the binding condition has been eliminated by feeling the connection between the power door lock motor and the bell crank
while operating the manual locks. If the binding condition still exists, enlarge the motor assembly mounting holes as required to relieve any
binding that may occur.

When the adjustment has been completed, reposition the door insulator and reinstall the door trim panel.
