Timing Cover: Service and Repair
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Water pump. Refer to Water Pump / Service and Repair. See: Water Pump/Service and Repair
2. Air conditioning compressor (if equipped) from the mounting bracket.
3. Air conditioning mounting bracket (if equipped).
4. Harmonic Balancer. Refer to Harmonic Balancer / Service and Repair. See: Cylinder Block Assembly/Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft
Pulley/Service and Repair
5. Lower radiator hose from the front cover.
^
Drain coolant from the cooling system.
6. Remaining front cover bolts.
7. Front cover.
8. Gasket.
CLEAN
Old gasket from the front cover and block.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. New gasket.
^ Make sure sealing surfaces are clean.
^ Take care not to damage sealing surfaces.
2. Front cover.
3. Water pump. Refer to Water Pump / Service and Repair. See: Water Pump/Service and Repair
4. Bolts and stud.
Tighten
^ Bolts to 24 Nm (18 ft lb).
^ Studs to 29 Nm (22 ft lb).
5. Lower radiator hose to the front cover.
6. Harmonic Balancer. Refer to Harmonic Balancer / Service and Repair. See: Cylinder Block Assembly/Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft
Pulley/Service and Repair
7. Air conditioning mounting bracket (if equipped).
8. Air conditioning compressor if equipped) to the mounting bracket.
9. Accessory drive belts.
10. Coolant into the cooling system.
^ Do not install the radiator cap.
11. Negative battery cable.
Run the engine until the thermostat opens (upper radiator hose is hot).
12. Coolant as necessary.
13. Radiator cap.
^ Make sure the arrows on the cap line up with the overflow tube.
