Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement

Fuel Sender

WARNING:  The water/diesel fuel mixture is flammable, and could be hot. To help avoid personal injury and/or property damage, do not
touch the fuel coming from the drain hose, and do not expose the fuel to open flames or sparks. Be sure you do not overfill the container. Heat
(such as from the engine) can cause the fuel to expand. If the container is too full, fuel could be forced out of the container. This could lead to a
fire and the risk of personal injury and/or vehicle damage.

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

1. Negative battery cable.
2. Drain fuel tank. Refer to Draining Fuel Tank. See: Fuel Tank/Service and Repair
3. Fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement. See: Fuel Tank/Service and Repair

Clean
-

Clean all fuel pipe and hose connections and surrounding areas before disconnecting to avoid possible contamination of the fuel system.

DISASSEMBLE

-

Using J 35731 remove fuel sender retaining cam, fuel sender assembly and O-ring from fuel tank. Discard fuel sender assembly, assembly
O-ring, and fuel feed and return tube O-rings.

Clean and Inspect
-

Fuel sender O-ring sealing surfaces.

-

inspect fuel tank for contamination and clean tank if necessary.

NOTE
-

Always replace fuel sender O-ring when reinstalling fuel sender.

Always relace fuel feed and return pipe O-ring seals whenever a fuel pipe has been disconnected.

ASSEMBLE

1. Position new fuel sender O-ring on fuel tank.

CAUTION:  Care should be taken not to fold over or twist the fuel strainer when installing the fuel sender as this will restrict fuel flow. Also.
assure that the fuel strainer does not block full travel of float arm.

2. Fuel sender and fuel sender retainer cam using J 35731.
3. Position new O-rings on fuel sender fuel feed and return pipes.

INSTALL OR CONNECT

1. Fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement. See: Fuel Tank/Service and Repair
2. Add fuel to tank.

Negative battery cable

4. Bleed air from system.
5. Start engine and check for leaks.
