Fuel Level Sensor: Service and Repair
Variable Speed Fuel Pump Module (HEV) - Removal
REMOVAL - HEV
WARNING: On vehicles equipped with the high voltage system, you must thoroughly read and follow all High Voltage Safety procedures. In
addition, before performing any diagnostic or service procedure near a high voltage component, you must perform the High
Voltage Power Down. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury See: Hybrid Drive
Systems/Battery System, Hybrid Drive/Service Precautions
WARNING: The fuel system is under a constant pressure, even with the engine off. Before servicing the fuel pump module, the fuel system
pressure must be released.
1. Perform the fuel system pressure release procedure See: Fuel Delivery and Air Induction/Fuel Filter/Fuel Pressure Release/Service and Repair
2. Perform the HEV high voltage power down procedure See: Hybrid Drive Systems/Battery System, Hybrid Drive/Service and Repair/Battery
System - High Voltage Power Down
3. Disconnect the 12 volt battery system ground isolation connector (1).
4. Drain the fuel tank See: Fuel Delivery and Air Induction/Fuel Tank/Service and Repair/Procedures for Draining Fuel Tank - HEV procedure.
5. Remove the fuel tank See: Fuel Delivery and Air Induction/Fuel Tank/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Fuel Tank - Removal
NOTE: Prior to removing the variable speed fuel pump module, use compressed air to remove any accumulated dirt and debris from around
fuel tank opening.
CAUTION: An indexing arrow is located on top of the variable speed fuel pump module to clock it's position into the fuel tank, note it's
location for reassembly.
6. Position the lock ring remover/installer 9340 (1) into the notches on the outside edge of the lock ring (2).
7. Install a 1/2 inch drive breaker bar (4) into the lock ring remover/installer 9340 (1).
NOTE: The variable speed fuel pump module will spring up slightly when the lock ring is removed.
