Brake Pad: Service and Repair

1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove front wheel and tire assembly.
2. Remove caliper to steering knuckle attaching bolts.
3. Remove caliper from steering knuckle by rotating free end of caliper away from steering knuckle, then slide opposite end of caliper out from under

machined abutment on steering knuckle. Support caliper on upper control arm. Do not allow it to hang on flex hose.

4. Remove front brake rotor, then the outboard pad by prying the pad retaining clip over raised area on caliper.
5. Pull inboard brake pad away from piston until retaining clip is free from cavity in piston.
6. Press caliper piston back into piston bore of caliper.
7. Lubricate both steering knuckle abutments with a suitable multi-purpose grease.
8. Install front rotor on hub.
9. Install inboard brake pad into caliper piston, then slide new outboard brake pad assembly onto caliper assembly.

10. Carefully position caliper and brake pad assembly over brake rotor by hooking lower end of caliper over the steering knuckle, then rotate caliper

into position at top of steering knuckle. Ensure caliper guide pin bolts, bushings and sleeves are clear of steering knuckle bosses.

11. Install caliper guide pin bolts and tighten to specifications.
12. Install wheel and tire assembly, then lower vehicle.
13. Apply brake pedal several times, then inspect master cylinder brake fluid level and add fluid if necessary.
