Vehicle Shudder During Moderate Braking at 60 to 65 MPH
MODELS:
1995 (JA) Cirrus/Stratus
NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES WITH 14" STEEL WHEELS DATE CODED "01 12 95" AND "01 27 95". THE DATE CODE IS
STAMPED ON THE WHEEL NEAR THE VALVE STEM.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Vehicle shudders during moderate braking effort when decelerating from speeds of 60 to 65 MPH down to 45 MPH.
DIAGNOSIS:
Inspect wheels for date code "01 12 95" or "01 27 95". If any of the wheels have these codes, proceed with diagnosis. If not, this bulletin does not apply.
Use standard brake diagnostic procedures.
1.
At 65 to 70 MPH, apply moderate braking effort using the service brake. Repeat using the parking brake only. USE EXTREME CAUTION.
2.
If shudder occurs, replace the rear wheel and tire assemblies with known good 14" wheel and tire assemblies or with 15" wheel and tire
assemblies.
3.
Repeat the braking test in step 1. if the vehicle does not shudder, perform the repair procedure.
4.
If vehicle still shudders, inspect brake components and repair as necessary.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves replacing all the suspect date code steel wheels, with new wheels.
1.
Remove the original tires from all wheels date coded "01 12 95" or "01 27 95" and install onto new wheels. Check the date code to ensure the new
wheels were not built on the listed dates.
2.
Balance the assemblies and install on vehicle.
3.
Verify shudder has been repaired.
