Steering Wheel: Service and Repair
1. Place front wheels in straight ahead position and disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove driver air bag module Torx bolts from back side of steering wheel.
3. Lift module, then lift secondary latch and disconnect connector from module. Never use a tool to pry on connector.
4. Remove speed control switch screws from back of steering wheel. Pull switch pods out and disconnect wires.
5. Disconnect horn wire from the air bag module mounting bracket. Remove speed control wires from under the bracket and from wire guides.
6. Remove steering wheel retaining nut.
7. Remove steering wheel with wheel a suitable puller tool. Feed all wires through steering wheel armature to avoid damaging wires.
8. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque steering wheel retaining nut to 45 ft-lbs.
b. Torque air bag module bolts to 7 ft-lbs.
