THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO JULY 20, 1998 (MDH 0620XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Hissing sound from the HVAC unit heard inside vehicle every time the air conditioning clutch cycles from OFF to ON. This hissing noise is caused by
the turbulent flow of R134a refrigerant through the inlet tube to the evaporator core.
DIAGNOSIS:
If the hissing noise can be heard as the A/C clutch cycles ON, perform the Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves installing a refrigerant flow straightener into the inlet tube of the evaporator.
1.
Remove refrigerant from the A/C system using a recovery machine.
2.
Remove the air inlet tube and air distribution duct on vehicles equipped with 3.2/3.5L engine.
3.
Remove the nut from the line connector at the expansion valve and disconnect the lines.
4.
Install the flow straightener, p/n 04885585AA, into the inlet tube of the evaporator until it bottoms out on its shoulder tabs. The inlet tube is the
smaller of the two tubes.
5.
Install the expansion valve.
6.
Install the line connector on the expansion valve stud.
7.
Charge the system with 25 oz. (1.56 lbs.) of R134a refrigerant as described on page 24-14 of the 1999 Concorde/Intrepid/LHS/300M Service
Manual (Publication No. 81-270-9140).
NOTE:
DO NOT ADD ADDITIONAL REFRIGERANT OR OIL. A/C SYSTEM PERFORMANCE PROBLEMS CAN RESULT.
