Radiator Cooling Fan Temperature Sensor / Switch: Testing and Inspection

REPLACE

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable.

2.

Drain coolant from radiator into suitable container.

3.

Disconnect thermo sensor wiring from sensor located in radiator lower tank.

4.

Remove sensor from radiator.

5.

Reverse procedure to install. Torque sensor to 10-12 ft. lbs.

TESTING

1.

Remove thermo sensor from radiator.

2.

Submerge sensor end of thermo sensor in water as shown.

3.

Connect ohmmeter across thermo sensor terminal and casing, then heat water.

4.

On thermo sensor No. 1, when water temperature reaches approximately 185°F, the thermo sensor contacts should close and continuity should
exist between sensor terminal and casing.

5.

On thermo sensor No. 2, when water temperature reaches approximately 212°F, the thermo sensor contacts should close and continuity should
exist between sensor terminal and casing.
