Lateral Accelerometer: Description and Operation
LATERAL ACCELERATION SENSOR
DESCRIPTION
The lateral acceleration sensor is located under the the center console behind the gear shifter assembly. This sensor is used to inform the ESP control
module the amount of lateral acceleration forces during cornering.
OPERATION
The lateral acceleration sensor measures the amount of lateral acceleration during cornering. This sensor uses a spring/mass type element to measure
the amount of lateral acceleration. The lateral acceleration that occurs during cornering causes the spring/mass element to move from its normal
position to a position corresponding to the magnitude of the lateral acceleration. Every change in the spring/mass element position changes the output
voltage of the sensor.
