Gear Grind Like Sound While Shifting
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves removing the transmission and lubricating the input shaft splines.
MODELS:
2004 - 2005

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 6 speed manual transmission (sales code DED).
DISCUSSION:
Some vehicles may have been built without the appropriate amount of lubricant on the transmission input shaft splines. This may result in the clutch disc
not sliding on the input shaft splines when the clutch pedal is depressed.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The vehicle operator may have difficulty shifting from neutral to first or reverse gear, and/or may hear a gear grind like sound when shifting from first to
second gear.
DIAGNOSIS:
NOTE:
The technician should read this diagnostic procedure thoroughly before beginning the diagnostic process.
1.
Ensure the shifter reverse lockout cable is properly adjusted.
NOTE:
The vehicle should be on a flat surface.
2.
Ensure the parking brake is released.
3.
Ensure the engine is not running.
4.
Place the gear shift lever in neutral.
5.
Depress and hold the clutch pedal.
NOTE:
Do not depress the brake pedal.
6.
Start the engine.
7.
Place the gear shift lever into first gear or reverse gear. Proceed as follows:
a.
If the gear shift lever is hard to move into gear, further diagnosis is necessary. This bulletin does not apply.
b.
If the gear shift lever moves easily into gear or grinds while going into gear, proceed to the next step.
8.
Place the gear shift lever into neutral and release the clutch pedal.
9.
Depress the clutch pedal and wait 4 seconds.
10.
Place the gear shift lever into first gear or reverse gear. Proceed as follows:
