Dome and cargo lamps on with hatch and both doors closed and headlamp switch turned to domelamp "Off".
^
Instrument panel warning light or voice alert or electronic monitor indicating "Hatch Ajar" when ignition is "On" but hatch is locked.
Any of the above conditions may be due to a mis-positioned switch on the liftgate latch..
^
Vehicles built after October 1, 1983, should not exhibit this condition.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
Recommended correction consists of removing the latch from the car, loosening the switch mounting screw, positioning the switch counterclockwise as
much as screw and locating pin will permit, then retightening the screw while holding the switch in this position.
The trim piece covering the latch must be completely removed before the latch. Six push pins (two top outer are dummies) and three screws must be
removed to remove the trim piece. Original latch adjustment location should be observed or marked so latch can be reinstalled with correct adjustment.
