Valve Guide: Service and Repair
Removal
1. Thoroughly clean cylinder head deck surface and alignment fixture bed surface.
2. Position cylinder head in fixture, deck surface down, so that the valve guides are vertical.
3. Place guide removal tool on guide and press it out using a 3 ton capacity press.
CAUTION: Cylinder head must be supported when pressing out guides.
NOTE; Oversize valves are the preferred fix for excessive valve stem clearance. The valve seats on some cylinder heads will have very high valve seat
runout after installation of the service guide. In some cases this condition may not be correctable by refacing the valve seat without excessive sinkage of
the valve seat.
4. Ream the cylinder head guide bores to 12.675 - 12.700 mm (0.4990 - 0.5000 in.) diameter.
5. Longer guides are for exhaust valves and shorter guides are for intake valves.
