High Pressure Safety Valve HVAC: Description and Operation
W/ Variable Displacement Compressor
High Pressure Relief Valve
DESCRIPTION
The High Pressure Relief Valve when used with a Variable Displacement Compressor is located on the rear of the compressor. It's function is to
prevent damage to the air conditioning system in the event that excessive pressure develops due to condenser air flow being restricted overcharge
of refrigerant, or air and moisture in the A/C system.
OPERATION
The high pressure relief valve vents only a small amount of refrigerant necessary to reduce system pressure and then reseats itself. The majority of
the refrigerant is conserved in the system. The valve is calibrated to vent at a pressure of 3100 to 4140 Kpa (450 to 600 psi). Therefore, the fact
that the valve vented refrigerant does not mean the valve is defective.
