Fuel Pressure: Testing and Inspection
Fuel Pressure Test
NOTE: Wrap shop towels around the inlet and outlet fittings of the fuel pump as the lines are removed to soak up any fuel that spills from the lines and
fittings.
1.
Connect a fuel pressure gauge (0-15 psi) to the fuel pump outlet fitting.
2.
CRANK the engine several times while observing the reading on the pressure gauge. The fuel pump should produce 4.5 - 6.0 psi.
3.
If the fuel pump doesn't produce 4.5 - 6.0 psi, then the pump is defective and needs to be replaced.
4.
Reconnect the fuel line to the outlet fitting of the fuel pump and check for leaks.
