Speedometer Gear, A/T: Service and Repair

1. Remove bolt and washer assembly securing speedometer pinion adapter in the extension housing, then with cable housing connected, carefully

work adapter and pinion out of the extension housing.

Remove the retainer and pinion from the adapter.

3.

If transmission fluid is found in cable housing, install a new speedometer pinion and seal assembly.

4.

If transmission fluid is found leaking between the cable and adapter, replace the small O-ring on the cable. Remove the adapter from the cable and
replace the O-ring.

5.

Clean adapter flange and mating surfaces and install the adapter on the cable, then install pinion on adapter with new large O-ring and install
retainer on pinion and adapter. Be sure retainer is properly seated.

6.

Install bolt and washer and torque to 60 inch lbs.
