This bulletin supersedes service bulletin 18-21-94 dated October 28, 1994 which should be noted in your files. The symptom/condition, diagnosis and
parts sections have been revised. Revisions are marked with **asterisks**.
Note:
This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with the 2.0L DOHC non-turbo engine and built prior to September 10, 1994.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
** Check Engine Light Illuminated, and DTC "TOO LITTLE SEC AIR, OR TOO MUCH SEC AIR" (MTX) or DTC "UPSTREAM OR
DOWNSTREAM 02S SHORTED TO VOLTAGE" is set, and/or any of the following symptoms: Driveway start up die out and long restart times in cold
ambient temperatures; launch hesitation during engine warm up; rough idle following start up when the engine coolant temperature is approximately 60
to 100 degrees fahrenheit; engine idle speed RPM increase during A/C engagement; light load vehicle surge (MTX); engine idle speed RPM undershoot
after de-clutch (MTX). **
DIAGNOSIS:
Using the Mopar Diagnostic System (MDS) or the Scan Tool (DRB III) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedure Manual, verify that all
engine/transmission systems are functioning as designed. If Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's) are present, record them on the repair order for future
reference and repair as necessary. ** If no DTC other than those specifically noted under Symptom/Condition are present and all systems are functioning
correctly, proceed with the following repair. **
**Note:
THE FOLLOWING REPAIR PROCEDURE DOES NOT ADDRESS "AIR SWITCHING SOLENOID CIRCUIT" FAULTS (DTC 36) OR O2S
FAULTS (DTC 21) OTHER THAN "UPSTREAM OR DOWNSTREAM O2S SHORTED TO VOLTAGE". REFER TO THE 1995 2.0/2.4L
ELECTRONIC FUEL INJECTION POWERTRAIN DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE MANUAL (PUBLICATION NO. 81-699-94037). **
Note:
This bulletin involves reprogramming the powertrain control module on vehicles built on or before June 16, 1994, or replacing the PCM on vehicles
built after June 16, 1994 and prior to September 10, 1994.
