Models equipped with power steering use a power steering pressure switch to improve engine idle quality. The switch maintains idle speed when
necessary due to increased power steering system pressure. Otherwise, this higher pressure would slow down the power steering pump, decreasing engine
idle speed.

The pressure switch signals the powertrain control module that additional engine load is being applied by the power steering system. Engine idle is
compensated for load by the signal from the pressure switch. As steering load increases or decreases, engine idle speed and quality are maintained.

The pressure switch is mounted directly on the power steering gear.

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
3. Locate power steering switch on backside of power steering gear, then disconnect pressure switch electrical connector.
4. Using a crowfoot and long extension, or equivalent, remove pressure switch from steering gear.
5. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

a. Do not exceed tightening specifications when tightening switch in steering gear. Overtightening may result in damage to switch port threads on

steering gear.

b. Install and hand tighten switch into gear until fully seated.
c. Using a crowfoot and extension, or equivalent, tighten switch to specifications.
d. Connect pressure switch electrical connector.
e. Refill fluid and bleed system of air. Refer to "Power Steering System Bleed" for air bleeding procedure.

Inspect system for fluid leaks.
