Steering Wheel Click Sound When Turning

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves removing the steering wheel and modifying the back cover to provide additional space between rotating components.

NOTE

This bulletin applies to models built before March 12, 2007 (MDH 0312XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Some vehicles may have a steering wheel that makes a click sound when the wheel is turned to the right or left.

DIAGNOSIS:
If the customer brings their vehicle in for a click sound while turning, attempt to verify that the sound is coming from the back side of the steering wheel.
If the sound is noted, perform the Repair Procedure.

SPECIAL TOOLS/EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1.

Following the procedures in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT, remove the steering wheel from the vehicle.

2.

Place the steering wheel face down on a clean bench (Fig. 1).
