Repairing Backlite

1. Lift #5 bow up. Remove staples from valance, under rubber seal.
2. Remove staples approximately one inch from top of material on each side.
3. Remove two screws attaching headliner to #5 bow.
4. Unhook backlite bracket from linkage assembly.
5. Remove broken backlite, and clean up area.
6. Attach new backlite by assembling backlite bracket to linkage.
7. Wrap outside material to #5 bow.
8. Line up valance binding with binding on top.
9. Latch #5 bow in position.

10. Stand behind vehicle, check for centering of backlite, adjust if necessary.
11. Apply the velcro around the backlite with the top.
12. Lift the #5 bow up, holding valance in position.
13. Attach a few staples in the center.
14. Cut out slot for pull down pins in valance material. Attach a few staples at each end.
15. Again, latch #5 bow in position and check for backlite position.
16. Adjust, if necessary, by removing and restapling valance.
17. Release #5 bow and attach a series of staples from one end of valance to the other.
18. Trim excess material beyond the staples with sharp razor blade.
19. Spray 3M Adhesive (or equivalent) on inside surface of #5 bow.
20. Let dry for five 5 minutes.
21. When adhesive is tacky, wrap the inside headliner material of valance around #5 bow from inside out.
22. Stretch to work all wrinkles out if required.
23. Latch #5 bow in body position and let cure for approximately 30 minutes.
24. Release bow.
25. Trim excess headliner material at rubber seal line under bow with sharp razor blade.
26. Attach headliner with-two screws to #5 bow at inside bottom corners of headliner.
27. Adjust backlite linkage to attain proper tension on backlite. This can be done by adjusting clevis mount in or out a few turns of #4 bow.
28. Trim excess binding on outside bottom of valance on each end so it overlaps with cloth binding by 4 mm-6 mm (3/16-1/4 in.).
29. Crimp the color matching metal clips at joint by aligning two bindings properly.
