NOTE:
This notification applies only to the above vehicles equipped with a 3.3L or 3.8L engine ("L", "R" or "3" in the 8th VIN position) built from October
1, 2001 through August 1, 2003 (MDH 1001XX through 0801XX).
IMPORTANT:
Some of the involved vehicles may be in dealer new vehicle inventory. Federal law requires you to stop sale and complete this recall service on these
vehicles before retail delivery. Dealers should also consider this requirement to apply to used vehicle inventory and should perform this recall on
vehicles in for service. Involved vehicles can be determined by using the VIP inquiry process.
Subject
The upper power steering return hose on about 680,000 of the above vehicles may split and leak fluid. Power steering fluid leakage in the presence of an
ignition source can result in an underhood fire.
Repair
The upper power steering return hose must be replaced.
Parts Information
Each package contains one upper power steering hose assembly with clamps.
Each dealer, to whom vehicles in the notification were invoiced, will receive enough Upper Power Steering Return Hose Packages to service about 5%
of those vehicles.
Completion Reporting and Reimbursement
Claims for vehicles that have been serviced must be submitted on the DealerCONNECT Claim Entry Screen located on the Service tab. Claims
submitted will be used by DaimlerChrysler to record recall service completions and provide dealer payments.
Use the labor operation number and time allowance shown.
Add the cost of the parts package plus applicable dealer allowance to your claim.
