Water Pump: Removal and Replacement

Water Pump - Removal

4.0L ENGINE

1. Drain cooling systemSee: Cooling System/Service and Repair.

NOTE: The water pump is driven by the timing belt.

2. Remove engine timing beltSee: Timing Components/Timing Belt/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Timing Belt & Sprockets -

Removal.

3. Remove water pump mounting bolts. Note position of longer bolt for proper re-installation.
4. Remove water pump body from engine.

Water Pump - Installation

4.0L ENGINE

1. Clean all O-ring surfaces on pump and cover.
2. Apply Mopar(R) Dielectric Grease or the equivalent silicone grease to the O-ring to facilitate assembly. Install new O-ring on water pump.
3. Position water pump to engine.
4. Install mounting bolts and tighten to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.).
5. Install timing beltSee: Timing Components/Timing Belt/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Timing Belt & Sprockets - Installation.
6. Fill cooling systemSee: Cooling System/Service and Repair.
