Child Seat Tether Attachment: Description and Operation

DESCRIPTION
This vehicle is equipped with a Lower Anchors and Tether for Children, or LATCH child restraint anchorage system. The LATCH system provides for
the installation of suitable child restraints in certain seating positions without using the standard equipment seat belt provided for that seating position.
The second row seats in this vehicle are equipped with a fixed-position child restraint upper tether anchor and two child restraint lower anchors for both
seating positions. On vehicles equipped with a third row seat there is also an upper tether anchor and two lower anchors provided for the center seating
position of that seat.
The second row upper tether anchors (1) are integral to the seat cushion frames (2). These anchors are each constructed from a heavy-gauge steel wire
loop that is securely welded to the seat cushion frame. The second row child restraint upper tether anchors cannot be adjusted or repaired and, if
ineffective or damaged, they must be replaced as a unit with their respective second row seat cushion frame unit.
The third row upper tether anchor (1) is also integral to the seat cushion frame (2). This anchor is constructed from a short length of heavy-gauge steel
wire that is securely welded to the seat cushion frame. The third row child restraint upper tether anchor cannot be adjusted or repaired and, if ineffective
or damaged, it must be replaced as a unit with the third row seat cushion frame unit.
The lower anchors (1) for this vehicle are also integral to their respective second row or third row outboard seat cushion frame. These anchors are also
constructed from a heavy-gauge steel wire loop that is securely welded to the seat cushion frame. They are each accessed from the front of their
respective seats, at each side where the seat back meets the seat cushion (2). These lower anchors cannot be adjusted or repaired and, if ineffective or
damaged, they must be replaced as a unit with the second row or third row seat cushion frame unit.
