Transmission Transfer Gear Whine Sound
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves replacing the gearshift control cable.

NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION (SALES CODE DGB OR DGL) BUILT
ON OR BEFORE JANUARY 19, 2003 (MDH 0119XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Vehicle operator may experience a vibration or transmission transfer gear whine sound between 40 kph (25 mph) and 56 kph (35 mph) under light to
medium throttle while driving on a smooth road.
DIAGNOSIS:
1.
If the vehicle operator experiences the vibration or sound, verify the sound is currently present.
2.
Disconnect the gearshift control cable at the transmission, isolate the cable so it cannot touch the transmission, then drive the vehicle between 40
kph (25 mph) and 56 kph (35 mph) on a smooth road.
CAUTION:
VEHICLE MUST BE AT REST WITH THE SERVICE BRAKE APPLIED WHEN GEAR SHIFT CONTROL CABLE IS DISCONNECTED OR
CONNECTED AT TRANSMISSION.
3.
If the sound is no longer present, perform Repair Procedure. If the sound is still present, proceed with normal transmission noise diagnosis.
PARTS REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1.
Remove the gearshift control cable. Refer to the service information available in TechCONNECT/MDS2 or the 2003 Town &
Country/Caravan/Voyager Service Manual (Publication No. 81-370-03062) page 21-204.
2.
Install new gearshift control cable package (p/n 05127717AA).
3.
Verify the sound is no longer present.
