1. Place a scale next to timing chain so chain movement can be measured.
2. Install a torque wrench and socket over camshaft sprocket, then apply torque in direction of crankshaft rotation to take up chain slack. Apply 30 ft.
lbs. of torque with cylinder heads installed or 15 ft. lbs. of torque with cylinder heads removed. With torque applied to camshaft sprocket bolt,
crankshaft should not move. It may be necessary to block crankshaft to prevent rotation.
3. Holding a scale with dimension reading even with edge of a chain link, apply specified torque in reverse direction and note amount of chain
movement, Fig. 16.
4. If timing chain movement exceeds 1/8 inch, replace chain.
