Moan/Whine Noise
MODELS:
1996 (NS) Town & Country/Caravan/Voyager
NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO JUNE 28, 1995 (MDH 062895). THIS REPAIR MAY NOT TOTALLY
ELIMINATE THE MOAN/WHINE NOISE, BUT WILL SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCE IT.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
A very limited number of NS vehicles built prior to June 28, 1995 may exhibit a moan/whine noise in the 1400 to 2000 engine rpm range when the A/C
compressor is operating. The noise is the result of resonance of components of the vehicle which is transmitted into the passenger compartment through
the A/C suction line. Although the noise is audible when the A/C compressor is operating, the noise is NOT directly related to the compressor itself.
Changing the A/C compressor will not change the noise condition.
NOTE:
THIS A/C RELATED MOAN/WHINE NOISE CAN BE MISTAKEN AS A TRANSAXLE RELATED NOISE AND RESULT IN
UNNECESSARY REPAIR ATTEMPTS IF THE DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE IS NOT FOLLOWED.
DIAGNOSIS:
Operate the engine in the 1200 to 1800 rpm range and press the A/C button to engage the A/C compressor. If an objectionable moan/whine is heard,
press the A/C button to disengage the A/C compressor, if the noise is reduced with the A/C compressor disengaged, perform the Repair Procedure.

Repair Procedure
This bulletin involves replacing the A/C suction line with a revised suction line that has a longer rubber hose section that reduces the moan/whine noise
heard in the passenger compartment.
1.
For vehicles not equipped with rear heater & A/C, skip to step 6. Raise the wiper arm pivot cover and remove the nut holding the wiper arm to the
wiper pivot.
2.
Use a suitable two jaw puller to separate the wiper arm from the wiper pivot.
3.
Repeat steps 1 and 2 for the other wiper arm.
