Inoperative Heated Seal
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves installing a heating element repair kit and/or replacing the seat back.

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Heated seat may be inoperative due to an open circuit in the heating element.
DIAGNOSIS:
Verify power to the seat by cycling the power seat. If the power seat is inoperative, refer to the 2001 RS Service Manual for further diagnosis.
Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. From under the vehicle, remove the four nuts attaching the front seat riser to the floor. From inside the
vehicle, pull the seat up and disengage the mounting studs from the floor. Tilt the seat rearward, up against the rear seat. Without removing the electrical
connectors, locate and remove the heated seat module attached to the bottom of the seat cushion pan.
The heated seat is a series circuit with an element in the seat cushion and an element in the seat back. If one element fails the other will not work. This
diagnosis will isolate if one or both elements have failed.
Checking The Seat Cushion Element
Disconnect the green 4-way electrical connector from the heated seat module. To simulate the weight of someone in the seat, use one hand to apply
pressure to the seat cushion and check for continuity between the two outboard circuit cavities (pins 1 and 4) of the wire harness. If there is continuity,
proceed to checking the seat back element. If there is no continuity, perform Repair Procedure One after checking the seat back element.
Checking The Seat Back Element
Disconnect the two-way electrical connector from the heated seat module. To simulate the weight of someone in the seat, use one hand and apply
pressure to the seat back and check for continuity between the two circuit cavities of the two-way wire harness. If there is continuity, refer to the Heated
Seat System, Section 8G-7 of the 2001 RS Service Manual for further diagnosis. If there is no continuity, perform Repair Procedure Two for seat backs
without side airbags and Repair Procedure Three for seat backs with side airbags.
NOTE:
IF THE SEATBACK HEATING ELEMENT HAS FAILED IN A VEHICLE WITH SEAT SIDE AIRBAGS, THE COMPLETE SEATBACK
ASSEMBLY MUST BE REPLACED. REFER TO THE MOPAR PARTS CATALOG TO ORDER A COMPLETE SEATBACK ASSEMBLY BY
VEHICLE TRIM AND COLOR CODE.
