Seat Belt: Description and Operation
Three-Point CLR Seat Belt

GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND SYSTEM OPERATION

Three-point convertible locking retractor (CLR) seat belts are standard for the front seat passenger and the rear seat outboard passenger positions.

The CLR seat belt has the following two operational modes:

-

Emergency-locking retractor (ELR) mode.

-

Auto-locking retractor (ALR) mode.

Normally, the seat belt operates in the ELR mode. This allows the passenger freedom of movement, except in emergency situations.

However, when the belt is fully extended and released, the seat belt operates in the ALR mode. The ALR mode does not allow movement. It is designed
to hold a child seat firmly to the seat of the vehicle.

To return the seat belt to the ELR mode, allow the seat belt to retract fully.
