Nubira and Leganza Battery Cable Clearance

For some Nubira and Leganza models, there may not be sufficient clearance between the positive battery cable and the starter solenoid housing. If no
clearance exists, the cable insulation may be rubbed through resulting in some arcing at the solenoid housing.
To prevent this from occurring in Nubira (through July production) and Leganza (through June production), perform the procedure provided below. Note
that models produced after these dates have a cable terminal that is 5 mm longer which provides sufficient cable-to-starter solenoid housing clearance.
Inspection Procedure:
1.
Check the driver's door jamb label and verify that the vehicle was manufactured before the prescribed production dates.

2.
Open the hood and check for a round sticker marked with the letter "S" on top of the left strut tower. If the sticker is present, the revision has
already been completed.
Update Procedure:
1.
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2.
Using a long (approximately 24"), flat-blade screwdriver, insert the screwdriver tip between the positive battery cable and the starter solenoid.
Using a twisting motion, bend the cable up away from the solenoid until a clearance of approximately 1/4 inch exists.
Note:
Wrap the tip of the screwdriver with electrical tape to minimize gouging of the solenoid housing.
3.
Reconnect the negative battery cable.
4.
Reset the Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve using the following procedure:
a)
Turn the ignition on for five (5) seconds.
b)
Turn the ignition off for five (5) seconds.
c)
Turn the ignition on for five (5) seconds.
d)
Start the engine in Park or Neutral.
