EGR Control Solenoid: Testing and Inspection
1.
With ignition switch off, disconnect the connector and vacuum hoses from EGR VSV.
2.
Ensure resistance between terminals is 20-60 ohms. Replace EGR VSV if not to specification.
3.
Apply compressed air to the upper vacuum port on the EGR VSV. Ensure no air exits EGR VSV.
4.
Apply compressed air to the center vacuum port on the EGR VSV. Ensure air exits from the lower port only.
5.
Apply battery voltage to the EGR VSV, ensure air exits center port when compressed air is applied to top port.
6.
With battery voltage connected, ensure air does not exit when compressed air is applied to the lower vacuum port.
7.
Reconnect connectors and vacuum hoses to EGR VSV.
8.
Connect ECU test harness and start engine.
9.
Ensure battery voltage is available between terminals 18 and 39 on the ECU test harness when coolant is below 104°F.
10.
If voltage is less than battery voltage, check wiring between battery and ECU terminal 38. If no abnormality is found, perform ECU test as
outlined under ``System Diagnostic Check.''
11.
Ensure 4 volts or less is available between terminals 18 and 39 on the ECU test harness when coolant is above 104°F.
12.
If voltage is not as specified, perform ECU test as outlined under ``System Diagnostic Check.''
