SYMPTOM/CONDITION
Door latch freezing or excessive latch release effort when operating the outside door handle, usually indicates a lack of lubricant on the inside half latch
assembly. This condition can be corrected by using the following procedures:
MATERIALS REQUIRED
Wheel Bearing Grease
PN 3837794 or 4318064
Small Hand Brush
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1.
Remove door inside operating items, trim panel and water shield.
2.
Visually inspect the inside half latch assembly for deformed levers, caused from excessive force in actuating the outside or inside handle during
latch freeze-up. The latch must be replaced if any deformations to the levers are evident.
3.
Using the small hand brush, generously apply the wheel bearing grease to the inside surface of the inside half latch assembly. Also apply grease
generously to the handle springs and rivets.
4.
Open and close door several times using both inside and outside door handles to verify satisfactory release operation.
NOTE:
IF OUTER DOOR HANDLE TO LATCH LINKAGE ADJUSTMENT IS NECESSARY, REFER TO APPROPRIATE SERVICE MANUAL
OR TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN #23-20-81.
5.
Install water shield and retrim door.
