Radiator Cooling Fan Motor: Testing and Inspection
DIAGNOSIS
Disconnect wire connector from fan motor terminal, then connect a 14 gauge jumper wire from battery to fan motor terminal. If fan motor does not
operate properly, replace fan motor.
FAN MOTOR, REPLACE
1982 MODELS
1. Disconnect wire connectors from fan motor and fan switch, then drain cooling system.
2. Disconnect upper and lower radiator hoses from radiator. On models equipped with automatic transmission, disconnect fluid cooling hoses from
radiator, if necessary.
3. Remove upper fan shroud attaching screws, then lift shroud upward and out of bottom shroud retaining clips, separating shroud from radiator.
When removing shroud from radiator, use care not to damage fan or radiator cooling fans.
4. Remove fan motor to shroud attaching screws, then while supporting fan motor and shaft, remove fan motor retaining clip and fan motor.
5. Reverse procedure to install.
