2500 4x2 Pickup V10-488 8.0L Magnum (1996)
Oil Pan: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. On all engines except 8.0L/V10-488, remove engine oil dipstick.
3. raise and support vehicle.
4. Drain engine oil, then remove exhaust crossover pipe and left engine to transmission strut.
5. Remove oil pan attaching screws, oil pan and gasket(s). It may be necessary to loosen right engine support bracket cushion through bolt and raise
engine slightly for clearance.
6. On 8.0L/V10-488 engine, remove oil pickup tube assembly and discard gasket.
7. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Clean oil pan in solvent and inspect condition of oil screen.
b. On all models except 8.0L/V10-488, apply a small amount of suitable sealant to corner of cap and block and install new one-piece gasket.
c. On 8.0L/V10-488 models, apply a small amount of suitable sealant at split lines between cylinder block, front cover and crankshaft rear seal
assembly.
d. oil pan and must be installed within three minutes of sealant application.
e. Install new one-piece gasket.
f.
Tighten oil pan bolts to specifications.
