Emissions Recall # 677 - Emission Maintenance Reminder Light
Models:
1996 Model Year Dodge Ram (BR) Trucks Equipped With a 5.9L Heavy Duty Gasoline Engine ("5" in the 8th VIN Position) Built Through December
31, 1995 (MDH 1231XX)
The emission maintenance reminder (EMR) light on the above listed vehicles, will not illuminate. Failure to illuminate the EMR light to inform the
vehicle owner that certain emission components require maintenance or replacement, is a violation of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
regulations. To correct this condition, a jumper wire must be installed and on some vehicles, the climate control module must be replaced.
Details of this service action are explained in the following sections.

Dealer Notification & Vehicle List
Involved dealers: Each dealer to whom involved vehicles were invoiced (or the current dealer at the same street address) will receive a copy of this
dealer recall notification letter and a list of the involved vehicles by first class mail.
The Vehicle List is arranged in Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) sequence. Owners known to Chrysler are also listed. The lists are for dealer
reference in arranging for service of involved vehicles.
All other dealers: Each Dodge Truck dealer who does not receive a Vehicle List will receive a copy of this dealer recall notification letter by first class
mail.
DIAL System Function 70 and VIP
All involved vehicles will be entered to DIAL System Function 70 and VIP at the time of recall implementation for dealer inquiry by VIN as needed.
Parts
Important:
Due to the small number of involved vehicles, less than 500 total, no parts will be distributed initially to dealers for this recall. Dealers are requested
to order parts only to support scheduled repairs.
Three (3) part packages are required depending upon whether or not, the vehicle is equipped with an auxiliary transmission oil cooler (sales code -- NHB
or NHT) or air conditioning (sales code -- HAA). The Vehicle VIN List provided to each involved dealer includes a part code which identifies the
required part number package for each VIN. This code is located in the third column of the VIN list and is identified by the "P" column header. Dealers
