Using the appropriate Ram Truck Service Manual, locate and identify the transmission oil cooler pressure line (Figure 1 shows a typical
transmission cooler hose arrangement).

CAUTION: 

The Drainback Valve is a one-way valve. As such, it must be properly oriented in terms of flow direction. In addition, the valve must be located in
the pressure line location only, otherwise flow will be blocked causing overheat and eventual transmission failure.

Disconnect the pressure line at both ends, discard this line. On the Diesel, this line goes from the transmission to engine compartment cooler. On
the V-10, this line goes from the transmission to auxiliary cooler.

8.0L V-10 & Cummins Diesel

Remove the pressure and return line quick connectors from the transmission and discard.

4.

Install the new connectors 1/2" 1/4 x 18 thread (P/N 52028468) into the transmission case.

5.

Insert new pressure tube and hose assembly with drainback valve into the quick connector. Push line inward until lock tabs secure in the line. A
snap should be heard as the tabs seat behind the cooler line flange. Install the current return line in the same manner as the pressure line.

Cummins Diesel Only

Disconnect the inlet and outlet lines at the transmission oil to water cooler. Discard the pressure line. Remove the connectors from the cooler and
discard.

7.

Install the 1/2" 3/8 x 18 THD quick connect, PIN 52028469, at the pressure and return ports in the cooler.

Push the new pressure tube and hose assembly and return line inward until lock tabs are secure in the line. A snap should be heard as the tabs seat
behind the cooler line flange.

Pull outward on cooler lines at all points to verify they are properly secured.

CAUTION: 

It is extremely important that cooler line seating be checked as described in step 9. If the lines are not fully secured, normal fluid pressure
could unseat the lines resulting in fluid loss and transmission damage.

10.

Start the vehicle and check for any leaks.

NOTE: 

If any transmission malfunction contaminates the fluid, the cooler and lines must be reversed flushed thoroughly. On vehicles equipped with the
drainback check valve, the valve must be removed and discarded before flushing. Replace the valve with a new one after all repairs are completed.
