NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO 4X4 VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO 9/22/93 (MDH 0922XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Excessive fore and aft free play at transfer case shifter lever, resulting in a rattle noise.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves replacing the transfer case shifter mechanism upper pivot bolt and lock nut with revised parts.
1.
Pop out the plastic decal on top of the transfer case shifter lever knob by using a small screwdriver and prying up at the edge. Remove the nut
inside the knob and unscrew the knob from the shifter lever.
NOTE:
IF THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION, REMOVE THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTER KNOB ALSO.
2.
Remove the upper shifter lever boot by removing the six or nine screws (depending on transmission type) attaching the boot to the floor.
3.
Remove the lower shifter lever boot by removing an additional six or nine screws (depending on transmission type) attaching the boot to the floor.
4.
Remove the crossover spring and rubber isolator from the upper pivot bolt. See Illustration.
5.
Remove the lock nut and upper pivot bolt and discard. Install the new upper pivot bolt (P/N 6035325) and lock nut (P/N 152472). Torque the lock
nut to 165 In.Lbs. Re-install the rubber isolator, using a suitable lubricant if necessary, and the crossover spring.
