Camshaft: Service and Repair
Camshaft Replacement
REMOVAL
1. Remove valve covers.
2. Remove rocker lever assemblies, then the pushrods.
3. Remove fan assembly, fan hub assembly and fan belt.
4. Remove vibration damper.
5. Remove oil filler tube, then the gear cover.
6. Remove lift pump.
7. Remove camshaft and gear as follows:

a. Insert camshaft removal service dowels through pushrod tube holes and into top of each tappet securely. Pull tappets up and wrap a rubber
band around top of dowel rods.

b. Rotate camshaft to align crankshaft to camshaft timing marks.
c. Remove two bolts from camshaft thrust plate.
d. Remove camshaft, gear and thrust plate.
e. If necessary, press camshaft out of gear using a suitable press.

1. If removed, install gear on camshaft as follows:
