THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 5.9L DIESEL ENGINE.
DISCUSSION:
The 5.9L diesel engine is built for Chrysler at two different engine plants. Engines beginning with serial number 44XXXXXX are built by Cummins at
their CDC plant in Rocky Mount, N.C. Engines beginning with serial number 56XXXXXX are built by Cummins at their CMEP plant in Columbus, IN.
Engines with a serial number of 44943979 or higher use stainless steel exhaust manifold gaskets with a thickness of .38 mm. (.015 in.). Engines with a
serial number of 56XXXXXX will have stainless steel exhaust manifold gaskets which are .46 mm (.018 in.) thick.
When performing repairs to the engine that require replacement of the exhaust manifold gasket, order service replacement part number 4429443. This
service replacement exhaust manifold gasket is .46 mm (.018 in.) thick. The service replacement gasket is approved for both plant engines.
NOTE:
DO NOT INTERMIX DIFFERENT THICKNESS EXHAUST MANIFOLD GASKETS. IF AN EXHAUST MANIFOLD GASKET REQUIRES
REPLACEMENT, THEN ALL SIX (6) GASKETS (ONE FOR EACH EXHAUST RUNNER) MUST BE REPLACED AT THE SAME TIME.
