THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE CUMMINS DIESEL ENGINE.
DISCUSSION:
The cooling system used on the Cummins diesel engine equipped vehicles provide for the capacity and protection of the higher GVWR and GCWR
ratings available on these vehicles. Combining this with the normal slower warm-up, and lower engine operating temperatures when operated unloaded,
first time owners may get concerned that the engine cooling system is not operating properly.
The coolant temperature gauge reading will fluctuate on diesel engine equipped vehicles. It is influenced by vehicle load, outside ambient temperature,
and extended idle time. This function is considered normal.
These characteristics must be taken into consideration when evaluating or diagnosing the cooling system. If the system is suspect, follow the Coolant
Temperature Gauge Diagnosis listed on Page 8E-9 in the 1994 Ram Truck Service Manual No. 81-370-4108.
