Temperature Warning Indicator - A/T: Testing and Inspection
NOTE: The diagnosis found here addresses an inoperative lamp condition. If the problem being diagnosed is related to lamp accuracy, be certain
to confirm that the problem is with the lamp and not the transmission oil cooling system. Proper transmission oil flow and cooler operation should
be checked before you proceed with lamp diagnosis.
1. a. Disconnect battery negative cable.
b. Remove instrument cluster bezel and message center.
c. Connect battery negative cable.
d. Turn ignition switch to ON position.
e. Check for battery voltage at cavity 3 of message center connector.

If OK, go to step 2. If not OK, repair circuit to fuse 12 as required.
2. a. Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
b. Install a jumper wire between cavity 8 of message center connector and a good ground.
c. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Lamp should light.
d. If OK, go to step 3. If not OK, replace faulty bulb.
3. a. Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
b. Disconnect battery negative cable, message center connector and PCM connector.
c. Check for continuity between cavity 8 of message center connector and a good ground. There should be no continuity.
d. If OK, go to step 4. If not OK, repair short circuit as required.
4. a. Check for continuity between cavity 8 of message center connector and cavity 31 of PCM connector (cavity 36 if equipped with V-10 engine).
There should be continuity.
b. If OK, sensor is at fault. If not OK, repair open circuit as required.
